CASCADE, Colo. — Rescuers helped a four-legged hiker down from a Colorado mountain over the weekend.

El Paso County Search and Rescue shared a photo of a black and white dog, named Roland, on a stretcher on Facebook. In the caption, rescuers said their team was called out to help the pup down from Barr Camp.

Pikes Peak is a 14,115-foot mountain that sits 8,000 feet above the city of Colorado Springs. It has 19 miles of mountain terrain leading to its summit. The dog and its owner were rescued on Barr Trail, which leads to Barr Camp, sitting 10,200 feet up the mountain. Barr Camp is just past the midway point between the parking lot and the summit, KKTV reported.

Rescuers said in their post that Roland’s owner had been carrying him for many miles, and was happy to get some help returning to their car.

A comment on the Facebook post, which appears to be from a family member of the dog’s owner, thanked the rescuers and said, “I’m sure Roland enjoyed the attention.”
